TEETH WHITENING.

Professional whitening, assessed first. In-chair and take-home options, planned around your teeth and your sensitivity.

THE ADORE APPROACH

DONE PROPERLY, FROM THE FIRST LOOK.

Professional whitening starts before any gel does. We check your teeth and gums first, then plan an approach that suits your enamel and how sensitive your teeth already are. That is the part an over-the-counter kit cannot do, because nobody has looked at your teeth.

Sometimes whitening is the whole plan. Often it comes first, before bonding or veneers, so any new work can be matched to the shade you settle on. Either way it starts with healthy teeth, and how much change is realistic depends on where your teeth are starting from. We go through the risks and considerations, sensitivity included, before anything is booked.

Your teeth have darkened or yellowed over time with coffee, tea, red wine or smoking. You have a date in the diary and would rather lighten your own teeth than cover them. You have tried a kit from the supermarket and got nowhere, or got sensitivity instead. Or you are planning bonding or aligners and want the shade sorted before any new work is matched to it.

Whitening works on natural tooth enamel. It will not change the colour of veneers, bonding, crowns or fillings, and it is not suitable for everyone. That is what the first appointment is for.

An examination first, to check there is no decay or gum inflammation and to record your starting shade. Whitening is done on healthy teeth or not at all. Then we plan the strength, the number of applications and the timing around your teeth and any existing sensitivity.

In-chair is about an hour. Take-home uses custom-fitted trays over a set number of nights. Sensitivity during and after is common and usually settles within a day or two, and we plan for it rather than pretend it does not happen. Every option carries its own risks and considerations, and we go through the ones that apply to you before anything starts.

Whitening is priced by option rather than by the tooth, and the starting prices are in our price guide. You will have the cost of your option in writing before anything is booked, including whether a check-up is needed first.

Top-up gel for your trays later is a separate, smaller cost, and we would rather tell you that now than at the end. If you would like to spread it out, we can talk through payment plan options and their terms.

WAYS TO WHITEN

THREE WHITENING OPTIONS.

Three options, and which one suits you depends on your timeline, your sensitivity and how much you’d like to do at home.

A whitening consultation and a one-hour in-chair session. Made for a tight timeline, a date in the diary or a wedding countdown. Bring something to watch while you whiten.

A whitening consultation, a one-hour in-chair session, and a take-home kit with custom-fitted trays and gel. Desensitising treatment is included as part of this option.

A whitening consultation, impressions for custom-fitted trays, and a take-home kit to lift your shade over a set number of nights. Suits you if a slower pace works better.

THE BENEFITS

WHY WHITENING?

Assessed first, planned around your teeth, and honest about sensitivity. Here is what separates professional whitening from a kit off the shelf, and what to weigh up before you start. All whitening carries risks and considerations.

Whitening is done on healthy teeth. We check for decay, cracks, worn enamel and gum inflammation before anything else, because whitening over a problem does not fix the problem and can make it hurt. If something needs treating first, we will tell you and why.
The gels we use are higher strength than the products sold over the counter, which is why they are used under supervision. The strength, the contact time and how often you apply it are matched to your teeth rather than printed on a box.
Sensitivity during and after whitening is common. It is usually short-lived, and we plan for it: a desensitising treatment, a slower schedule where needed, and a lower strength if your teeth tell us to. If sensitivity is already an issue for you, say so at the consultation. It changes the plan rather than ruling it out.
In-chair is one appointment, about an hour. Take-home is custom trays over a set number of nights, at your pace. Some plans combine both, which is often the practical answer: the in-chair session does the lifting, the trays maintain it.
Where bonding, veneers or crowns are planned, whitening comes first, because those materials are matched to your shade and will not change colour afterwards. Getting the order right is the difference between work that matches and work that does not.

WHAT TO EXPECT

THE PROCESS.

01 | ASSESSMENT & SHADE CHECK

We start with a proper look at your teeth and gums, because whitening is done on healthy teeth. Your current shade is recorded, and we plan the approach, the strength and the timing around your teeth and any sensitivity.

02 | YOUR WHITENING

In the chair it is about an hour, and you are welcome to watch something while the gel does its work. At home it is custom-fitted trays and professional gel on a schedule we set together. Some plans combine both.

03 | AFTERCARE & KEEPING KIT

How long your result lasts depends on your habits: coffee, tea, red wine and smoking all have opinions. We will show you how to look after your shade, and custom trays mean top-ups later are done at home rather than back in the chair.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

ASKED & ANSWERED.

If your question isn't here, please get in touch with us. We're always happy to help.

It depends which option you choose, and the starting prices are in our price guide. You will have the cost of your option in writing before anything is booked, including whether a check-up is needed first.

Top-up gel for your trays later is a smaller separate cost. If you would like to spread it out, we can talk through payment plan options and their terms.

It varies, and anyone giving you a number before looking at your teeth is guessing. How much change is realistic depends on your starting shade, what is causing the discolouration and how your enamel responds. Some staining lifts readily, some barely moves, and discolouration coming from inside the tooth rather than the surface may not respond to whitening at all.

We record your starting shade so you can see the change for what it is, and at the consultation we will tell you what is realistic for your teeth rather than what sounds good.

Often, at least for a while. Sensitivity during and after whitening is common and usually settles within a day or two. We plan for it with a desensitising treatment, a lower strength or a slower schedule where your teeth need one.

If your teeth are already sensitive, tell us at the consultation. It changes the approach rather than ruling whitening out.

It depends mostly on you. Coffee, tea, red wine and smoking all pull the shade back. Custom trays mean you can top up at home rather than start again, and we will show you how. Worth knowing from the outset: whitening is a maintained result, not a permanent one.

No. Whitening works on natural tooth enamel. Veneers, bonding, crowns and fillings do not change colour, which is why the order matters: whiten first, then match any new work to the shade you have settled on.

If you already have work in place, whitening the teeth around it can leave a mismatch. We will show you where that would happen before you decide.

They are lower strength, and the trays are not made for your mouth, so the gel sits against your gums as much as your teeth. That is where a lot of the sensitivity and the patchy results come from. There is also nobody checking whether whitening is a sensible idea for your teeth in the first place, which matters if there is decay, a crack or gum inflammation.

If a kit has worked for you, there is nothing wrong with that. If it has not, this is usually why.

No. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for under-18s. It is not done over untreated decay, gum disease, cracks or exposed dentine, and heavily worn enamel changes what is sensible. Discolouration coming from inside a tooth, after an old root canal or from certain medications, often needs a different approach altogether. Working out which group you are in is what the first appointment is for.

Whitening is a chemical process acting on your enamel and it carries risks worth understanding. The common ones are sensitivity during and after treatment, and irritation where gel contacts the gum. Results vary between people and cannot be predicted precisely beforehand.

Whitening will not change the colour of existing veneers, bonding, crowns or fillings. It is not permanent, and the shade needs maintaining. Overuse, particularly with unsupervised products, can damage enamel.

We go through what applies to you at the consultation, and you can read our full risks and considerations first.
