A dental implant replaces a missing tooth from the root up: a small titanium post placed into your jawbone, which it integrates with over the following months, supporting a crown made to sit alongside your own teeth. It’s planned with the same conservative care we bring to everything else.
Because an implant stands on its own, your healthy neighbouring teeth stay exactly as they are. Nothing is ground down to hold a bridge, and nothing rests where it shouldn’t. Even a replacement can be planned around keeping what you already have.

How many teeth are missing changes what the plan looks like. These are the three shapes it usually takes, and which one suits you is worked out from your scan.
A SINGLE TOOTH →
One titanium post where the root once was, and a custom crown shade-matched to sit with the teeth beside it. The teeth either side aren’t shaped or touched. Placed with guided, flap-less techniques where your case suits them.
A FEW TEETH →
Two or three missing teeth can be replaced with a bridge supported on implants rather than on your own teeth. Fewer implants are needed than teeth being replaced, and your remaining natural teeth aren’t shaped to carry anything.
A FULL ARCH →
For patients missing most or all of their teeth, a full arch can be supported on four to six implants. Fixed in place rather than removable, with no suction or adhesive. It can suit cases where bone loss rules out individual implants.

01 | CONSULTATION & 3D PLANNING
A conversation about what you’d like back, then a 3D cone-beam scan of your bone and bite. Your implant’s position is planned on screen before anything begins, and you leave with an itemised plan, a realistic timeline and time to decide.
02 | PLACEMENT & HEALING
The implant is placed under local anaesthetic using the digital guide, with flap-less techniques where your case suits them. Then the quiet part: over the following months the post integrates with your jawbone, and we check on it as it goes.
03 | YOUR NEW TOOTH
Once integration is confirmed, your crown is made and fitted, shaped and shaded to sit with your own teeth. Your bite is checked, care is explained, and from there it’s brushed, flossed and checked at your regular visits like the rest of your mouth.

How much do implants cost?
It depends on how many teeth are being replaced, whether any preparation is needed first, and what the final crown is made from. A single implant is quoted as a total: the placement, the components, and the crown on top.

Does getting an implant hurt?
Placement is a surgical procedure done under local anaesthetic, so you shouldn’t feel pain while it’s happening. Afterwards there’s usually some swelling and soreness for a few days, managed with ordinary pain relief, and we’ll go through exactly what to expect before you book anything.

How long does the whole process take?
Longer than anything else we do, and that’s worth knowing before you start rather than after. Once the post is placed it needs several months to integrate with your jawbone before the crown can go on. Some cases move faster. Some need preparation first, which adds time.
You’ll get a realistic timeline for your own case at the consultation rather than an average that may not apply to you.
How long do implants last?
There’s no guarantee. Implants can and do fail, most often because of gum disease around the implant, smoking, poorly controlled diabetes, or heavy grinding.
Well looked after, in a healthy mouth, implants often give many years of service. What makes the difference is the maintenance afterwards, which is why check-ups continue once the work is done. We’d rather talk you through what affects that than give you a number that may not hold for your mouth.
Implant or bridge?
A bridge is faster and doesn’t involve surgery, but it means shaping the two healthy teeth either side of the gap to carry it. An implant leaves those teeth untouched, but it’s surgery, it takes months, and it costs more up front.
If the teeth beside your gap are healthy and unrestored, an implant is usually the more conservative answer, and we’ll say so. If they already need crowns anyway, a bridge may make better sense. That’s the conversation, and it happens before you commit to either.
Am I suitable for implants?
Not everyone is, and it’s assessed properly rather than assumed. It depends on how much bone you have, your gum health, whether you smoke, and any medical conditions or medications that affect healing.
The 3D scan at your consultation answers most of it. If you’d need bone grafting first, or if implants aren’t the right call for you at all, we’ll tell you plainly and go through what else is available.
What is guided, flap-less surgery?
Guided means your implant’s position is planned on the 3D scan beforehand and placed using a custom surgical guide, rather than judged by eye on the day.
Flap-less means the implant goes in through a small opening in the gum, rather than the gum being lifted and stitched back. It suits some cases and not others, and whether yours is one of them is decided from your scan rather than promised in advance.
What if I need a bone graft?
It’s common where a tooth has been missing a while, because the bone shrinks back once the root is gone. Grafting aims to rebuild enough bone to hold an implant.
It adds cost, and it adds healing time before the implant can be placed. If your scan shows you need one, it goes in your written quote from the start rather than appearing partway through.
What should I know before I start?
Implant placement is surgery. It carries the risks any surgery carries, including infection, along with risks specific to the mouth: damage to nearby nerves or sinuses, and the implant failing to integrate with the bone. Smoking, gum disease and poorly controlled diabetes all raise the chance of failure.
It also takes months rather than weeks, and some people need bone grafting first, which adds to both the cost and the timeline.

WHAT'S ALL-ON-4?
All-on-4® is a registered trademark of Nobel Biocare for a technique that supports a full arch of fixed teeth on four implants. All-on-6 uses six. The principle is the same in both: fewer implants than teeth, angled and positioned to make the most of the bone you have.
Which approach suits you, and which system we would use, is decided from your 3D scan at your consultation.
HOW LONG IS THE RECOVERY?
Most people take it easy for a day or two and are back to normal activity quickly after that. Expect some swelling and soreness for a few days, softer food for a while, and a review appointment to check the site is healing as it should.
Where flap-less placement suits your case there’s usually less to heal, because the gum hasn’t been lifted and stitched. Whether that’s possible for you is decided from your scan rather than promised beforehand.
The long part isn’t the recovery, it’s the integration: the months the post spends fusing with your jawbone before the crown goes on. You’re not out of action during that time, you’re just not finished.
